Hooded Eyelids: What You Need to Know

Hooded Eyelids: What You Need to Know

Hooded eyelids, or hooded eyes, the more common term, get their name due to the upper lids drooping, sometimes enough to obscure the eye. Hooded eyes are also called bedroom eyes based on the sleepy look a person often has. A hooded eyelid may be slight to very severe.

Who Gets Hooded Eyelids?

You’ve probably met someone with hooded eyelids, and not even realized it. There are several famous celebrities with hooded eyes, such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Taylor Swift, and Jennifer Lawrence to name a few. These ladies have very sexy eyes, but not everyone thinks their hooded eyes are sexy. Anyone can have hooded eyes, but they do seem to get worse with age.

Are There Any Treatments For Hooded Eyelids?

Treatment for hooded eyelids in Chicago are varied depending on the severity and how much they bother you. For slight cases, there are many tutorials to help teach make-up tips to help diminish the appearance of hooded eyelids. For more severe cases, treatment may include medical, but non-surgical options.  Very severe cases may necessitate surgical intervention.

What Kind of Surgery is Available?

There are many qualified surgeons in Chicago who can advise what is best for your specific condition. Blepharoplasty is the medical term for hooded eyelid removal. There are basically two types of blepharoplasty, functional and cosmetic. Functional blepharoplasty is performed when the excess skin interferes with the ability to see and may be covered under health insurance. Cosmetic blepharoplasty is not considered medical, but the patient still desires to have the surgery completed to improve self-esteem or self-confidence.

Things to Remember

Surgery of any type has risks so remember to discuss your entire health history with your surgeon. Listen to all pre-surgical instructions and follow up with your surgeon after surgery if you have any unexpected symptoms.
