Few things in life are as beautiful as wood flooring. It makes a home look warm and comfortable and creates an inviting oasis in a world of hard work and problems. However, those lovely floors can get dirty, and you need a good hardwood floor cleaner to keep them looking fresh and clean. Here are some helpful tips for cleaning to make the job a little easier.

Be Gentle

Before cleaning, go over the floors with a dust mop to remove the dust. If you use a vacuum cleaner, make sure to turn off the beater bar. In fact, it is usually best to use the brush attachment for floors. This is the best way to keep from scratching the finish and making ugly marks which are almost impossible to get rid of. Dusting is best done on a regular basis, so you do not have to use hardwood floor cleaner so often.

Cleaning Liquid

You must be careful not to use harsh cleaners on wood. Do not use a mop and a great deal of soapy water either. It is not good for the wood to get completely saturated. Some people choose to make their own cleaner with vinegar and water. Make sure to use a 10/1 water to vinegar ratio. If you use too much vinegar, the acid may damage the floor finish.

Natural Cleaners

The best hardwood floor cleaner products are completely natural and safe to apply. To use this kind of cleaner, you simply mix the cleaning pod with water in the spray bottle you receive with your kit. Unlike vinegar and many other cleaners, this product is neutral in PH rating, so you get no acidic damage to the finish. All you have to do is spray on the cleaner and then wipe it off with a soft cloth. You can use it on tile and linoleum floors too.
