When it comes to buying a new car you want to be sure you choose a good dealership to work with. If you are planning on buying a new car, then your best option is a sponsored dealership, but if you are buying a used car, then you can go to any dealership. There are large and small sponsored and independent car dealerships in Buffalo Grove, but what is the difference between the two? Is one better?

Branding

Sponsored dealerships are sponsored by one of the major manufacturers. Therefore, they only sell new cars from one manufacturer and their partners and subsidiaries. This allows the dealership to benefit from the reputation of the manufacturer. The reason this is good for you, the customer, is because it means they are held to a higher standard. To maintain their sponsorship dealers must meet certain criteria set forth by the manufacturer. This is why you do not see small; road side branded dealerships. They must be able to sell a certain number of vehicles.

Selection

Sponsored dealerships will often have a similar used car selection to independent lots, but they may not have as extensive of inventory. This is not always true, however, as some of them can have quite large used car inventories.

Price

Usually, you will spend more at a sponsored dealership than at an independent dealership. This is simply because they have higher overhead compared to others. Since they are required to meet the criteria set forth by the manufacturer, their expenses are higher. While you are likely to pay more for a car at a sponsored dealership, you are also going to be getting a better vehicle.

At the end of the day, the dealership you buy from is usually going to come down to simply finding the right vehicle. That being said, both sponsored, and independent dealerships have their own advantages.
